1. What is the name of Act ?
Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
2. What is a Local Planning Area (LPA) ?
An area notified by the Government under the section 10(1)(b) and confirmed under section 10(4) of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 is called Local Planning Area (LPA). LPA is a contiguous area which mostly covers an Urbanized city/town and its surrounding areas upto a certain extent.
3. What is a Local Planning Authority ?
An authority constituted by the Government under the section 11(3) of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971, to carry out the functions laid out in the act by having the declared Local Planning Area as its Jurisdiction is called Local Planning Authority.
4. What is a Master Plan ?
A master plan is a comprehensive development plan prepared for a Local Planning Area which gives a road map for the future development over the next 20 years to attain a sustainable and eco-friendly urban development.
5. Under which Department/Organisation the Local Planning Authority functions?
The Local Planning Authority functions under the Housing and Urban Development Department, Government of Tamil Nadu in consultation with the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Chennai.
