DIRECTORATE OF TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING

The Government by its order notified the Salem Local Planning Area containing the old Salem Municipality Area and the surrounding 154 revenue villages under section 10(1) of Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 and eventually confirmed the same under section 10(4) of the Act in the year 1997.

Due to rapid urbanization in the core & sub-urban areas, the Government decided to expand the Salem Local Planning Area and issued orders in the year 2018 to include an additional area of extent 621.83 Sq.Km in the surroundings of Salem LPA. The expanded LPA now contains the Salem City Municipal Corporation at its center along with 277 Revenue Villages.
